Greyson has informed me that he, in addition to being allergic to milk, he is allergic to girls. In his words, "they make me sick" How funny is that? Out of the mouths of babes.
Guess this means he is growing up! He has hit the "girls have cooties" stage.
Speaking of growing up, he had his first overnight sleepover last night. Yes, I am that mom. I took pictures of him with his overnight bag, with his cousin (who was also sleeping over) and of him in the car (even though he was not looking, he was already on the way!)..sigh. My baby is growing up.

Beach 2010
We made our annual trip to Myrtle Beach this year and it was amazing, just like all other years! I just love comparing one year to the next and seeing how the boys grow and change. Here are some amazing pictures of the guys that will tell a story of their own.
These are my beachy boys...all three of them absolutely love the sand, sun, and surf!
I think that Greyson's transformation from last year to this was just amazing. Heck, even just 3 weeks before we went to the beach, he was afraid to go under water and jump off the side of the pool. You cannot get him out of some kind of water when we were at the beach. Jumping off, going under water, riding the waves, he was unstoppable.
Late night crabbing with the Daddies! They were gone so long that we thought something bad had happened, when in reality, they were just having a BLAST!
Cousins...best friends or bitter rivals? How about both, depending on the day or moment! Keegan and Greyson so close in age make for interesting play!
Last year, Gunner was 12 weeks actual, 5 adjusted when we went to the beach. The closest he got to sand was on the balcony of the 14th floor in his 50 spf tent. This year, the boy played in the sand, pool, and water, ate sand (much to my dismay), toddled with hands through the surf. His change from last year (sleeping thru anything fun) to this year was nothing less than amazing.
Always have to make time for some arcade play, even if it is blazing hot in there...the kids (and big kids) love it!

Allergries stink...
Today, we did our annual allergy testing for Greyson and initial testing for Gunner. Greyson has been allergic to milk since his first birthday. The nasty reaction seen below was the result of a cheeto innocently shared by his older cousin. This was how we found out he was allergic to milk...well something and it prompted our getting him tested.
So, what did we find out this year? Greyson had a skin test for just milk. They tested with the extract and fresh milk, which is supposed to be more reactive. He had a little itching at the site, but no noticeable reaction. They actually deemed it a NEGATIVE reaction, which means he shouldn't be allergic to milk.
So on to the food challenge. This entailed dipping a tongue depresser in milk and touching it to his tounge. They wait 15 minutes to see what happens. At about the 15 minute mark, Greyson starts itching his eyes and I notice a little puff in his upper lip. They give him some benadryl. We are waiting for our paperwork and I notice his cheeks under his eyes are puffing up. This earns him an epi-pen injection and a dose of a steriod to counteract the allergen. So, despite the negative skin testing, a positive food challenge, told us he is still allergic to milk, but outgrowing it. Maybe next year.
Gunner had his first test. They did the traditional 6 panel test, which tests for the most allergen prone foods. He had a significant reaction to eggs, but no milk. This actually doesn't surprise me, as Greyson was allergic to eggs his first year too. So, I have wearily started introducing milk to him to see what happens. I am mixing a 1:4 ratio on the milk and thus far no reaction. He has also had some yogurt melts with no reaction. I don't know what to do with a child that is not allergic to milk!

My little firecrackers
On July 3rd, the boys and I enjoyed one of my childhood traditions....the Schoolcraft 4th of July Parade. Greyson focused on all the activity and thought that the candy collection was a great sport. Gunner, strapped on me ala Moby Wrap, danced and clapped and babbled the whole time. He absolutely loved it and was very content...not that you can tell by the above pic. :)
Greyson had his first pony ride...up till now he was terrified of most animals in cages, so this is a HUGE step. The fair might actually be fun this year!
Here is the boys waiting for the parade to begin!

Random Cuteness....
Let's see, cute things my boys did this week:
Gunner got the hiccups. He would hiccup and then laugh after every.single.one. Randomly cute!
Greyson has shifted all focus from his birthday to Father's day...now everyday is father's day. Wait till next weekend...Daddy's birthday! A new focus. On that note I asked him what he thought daddy would like for his birthday, his reply "well, maybe a special gun" lol what a cutie. Randomly cute!
Gunner tried spaghetti, courtesy of the magic bullet...he loves it. When he sees food in general (bowl with spoon) he flaps his hands so hard he might take flight. Randomly Cute!
Greyson set up his Toy Story toys with his big standees from his party...see photo. Randomly Cute!
Here are some randomly cute photos:
Baby Gunner in his big boy seat. I cleaned and sanitized it, it is ready to go. I am just debating when I am ready to give up the containment and fall asleep ability of the infant seat. He definitely fits this one better than the infant seat he was once swimming in...ugh. What a big boy he has become. He will still be rear-facing, but this seat will be in my car soon.
Big brother Greyson with his party guests Woody and Buzz...he loves these guys!

Officially Teething, Water Time!
One year, two weeks and 3 days...we officially have a tooth beginning to emerge (well at least you can see the eruption in the gum and a hint of white below) Welcome to teething hell. My angel baby is not happy now unless he is distracted from the fact that his teethers hurt, this means water time, socks (don't ask me why, but they make him very happy), and ice cream or something else cold on his gums.
Greyson and Gunner spent about an hour in the kiddie pool today, I was sure they would be pruned everywhere. They were so cute. Here are some awesome pics from today's water time...

Thoughtful Thursday...my baby's birthday
Four years ago today, I became a mother, mom, mommy. At 1:34am I heard the sweetest sound known to man when my newborn son cried for the first time...welcoming me into the fold of motherhood. At that moment, I knew my life would never and could never be the same. I would live and breathe for that boy and I like to think I still do.
Today, my sweet baby boy, born full term at 5 lbs 12 oz and 19 1/4 inches turns four. FOUR. I simply cannot believe he is that old. Let's not even go into how old that makes me. For reminiscing sake here are some pics of then and now.
This is my big boy all of four years old...still changing my life
That sweet four year old boy is such an amazing little guy. He is rambuncious, smart, and definitely all boy, although he has on occasion asked me to paint his toenails when I am doing mine. He knows all of his colors, shapes, most if not all of his letters, he can sing his ABC's and many other tunes. He knows he is allergic to milk and is smart enough to tell people if he can't have something (an ability I wish he didn't have).
today, I pay tribute to my first born with a pancake breakfast, complete with 4 candles. Happy Birthday sweetie.

TS3...let the countdown begin
For those of you who do not have a young boy in the house, TS3 is the acronym for "Toy Story 3"...it is all that I hear about these days, and it seems fitting that since its release date falls on the day after my big boy's birthday, that we should approiately have a Toy Story birthday party to celebrate it. So Toy Story it is. Add to this lucky phenomenon of dates the fact that Greyson's birthday was completely overshadowed by his brother's early birth and subsequent NICU rollercoaster ride and you have the makings for one hell of a party.
I will post pictures in good time, I don't want to ruin the surprise of what this semi-insane mama is up to. He better understand how much I love him...lol

Mom's version of the birth story Date: 06/25/2006
It’s a Boy!
Greyson Luke Young has arrived
Born: June 17, 2006
Weight: 5 lb 12 oz (and growing)
Length: 19 ½ in
Despite his delivery date of June 17th, I would say that it all started about a week earlier. I had “pre-labor” or early labor off and on the entire week before he was born. When I say this I am referring to bouts of contractions that lasted for 5-7 hours at a time, increasing in intensity and duration, AND that were 3-5 minutes apart. (All the qualities that you would think of with the real deal) So each night, I would hold off calling the doctor waiting to see what would happen. Would they stop, would they continue?
On Thursday, June 15, the back labor set in along with the front labor. It was unbearable. I had contractions regularly from 10pm until I went to the hospital at 5:30 am. I had an induction date of June 16th, with my doctor, but I really wanted to go on my own. They said that I was dilated to 1-2 and the cervix was still firm, so I told them I was going home to walk or any other natural labor inducer.
The contractions continued through the day on Thursday, but not as regular as they had been. But at 7pm they were back in full force. I dealt with them until about 1:30am, when I called my sister, who was my other birth support person. She said that I probably had a few hours before I needed to go to the hospital. My hubby helped me through 2 more hours of agonizing pain. Sunny made it to our house to help. We all worked through the contractions together. Brian called the hospital to see if we came in and it wasn’t the real thing if I could stay till my induction appointment. With them saying yes, plus if it’s pre-labor we’ll give her a little something to sleep, we headed in.
We checked in at about 5:00am. Disappointingly enough, I was still only dilated to 1-2 and the cervix was still firm. All the pain of the last 48 hours meant nothing! They gave me something to help me sleep. I was out until about 9am, went down to my prenatal massage appointment at 10:30 am and then was out again. They started the induction at noon. My doctor was scheduled to be on call at 7pm. I was so happy she would be delivering my baby.
I had 3 doses (2-3 hours apart) of the induction agent. By about 10pm my doctor came in and checked me, I was at about 6. Yeah, things are finally working. The pain was getting awful. They gave me a little stadol to take the edge off the contractions.
They had me on a fetal and maternal monitor, but the sound was down. We had no way of knowing what the fetal heart rate was doing. That is until a nurse came in and told us we couldn’t use the birthing ball the way we were, which was how we were instructed in birthing class. Apparently, the baby’s heart rate was dropping with each contraction as well as with different positions that I was laboring in.
When it came time to give me pitocin (which I was very against) at about 11:30 pm they said I was at 7-8. I cried with joy! BUT, BUT the head was not at all engaged in the birth canal! What!?!? How can that be?
My dear sweet husband saw how rattled I was with the nurse who freaked out on us as well as the increasingly medical birth that I was having. I had been catherderized, they had started an internal fetal monitor (which I could hear the fetal heart rate from and heard it drop so low, it made me a wreck), and then they put me on oxygen. At this point, I had decided to get an epidural, more for my nerves than for the pain. Again, hadn’t planned on this, but then again nothing was going according to what I planned. Sunny leaned over and hugged me and told me it would all be alright. I was scared, but ready to do whatever to have a healthy baby.
During this time, my husband took the nurse outside and asked her point blank what was happening and what we needed to do to deliver a healthy baby. She confirmed his suspicions that things weren’t going well. My sister at this time was holding my legs in position, because I couldn’t really feel them, so that the baby’s heart rate stayed at a normal rate. Moving me if the heart rate dropped. Brian told the nurse that if something needed to be done, that my doctor would have to come in and explain what was going on and what our choices were, because he knew that I trusted her and she made me feel at ease.
Dr. came in at about 12am and told me that we could go for the pitocin, but since I was at 7-8 and the head was not engaged, I would be in store for another 5 hours of labor and then probably 3 hours of pushing, all of which would be challenging my baby. She said it’s normal to have fluctuation in the heart beat during contractions and I knew that, but for another 8 hours might be too much. I told my husband that I didn’t think that I could do that after the week that I had. She also said that we could do a c-section, which if we did it now as opposed to later, the baby would fare much better and it wouldn’t be a rushed job.
We decided that we wanted to go the planned last minute c-section route as opposed to challenging the baby and then going that way. Brian dressed in his scrubs and I got prepped for surgery. I was really out of it, but awake for the entire thing. I couldn’t feel pain, just a lot of pressure, especially right at my pubic bone. Brian talked to me the whole time, keeping my mind off the procedure. I jokingly told him that the blue scrubs brought out his blue eyes.
I kept talking, trying to ignore comments that scared the heck out of me, like “oh my” and “merconium”. Suddenly, they said look dad, and when Brian did, he told me that the umbilical cord was wrapped around the baby’s neck twice. I immediately was relieved and broke down in tears. We smiled at each other knowing we made the only decision we could have. Shortly after that, Brian told me, “It’s a boy!”
During my pregnancy, I had been diagnosed with gestational diabetes, so I was always worried that the baby would be really big. At 38 weeks, my ultrasound showed the baby at 5 lb 11 oz. I was instructed to eat whatever I wanted to, but just gain weight. Ten days later I had another ultrasound, they said the baby had gained weight and was at 6lb 13oz. So when Brian told me the baby weighed in at 5lb 12 oz, I was shocked. He was so tiny!
The nurses cleaned my little boy off, handed him to dad, and then I fell in love at first sight. During the first few days, I was drugged and in pain, and Brian was amazing. I could barely walk, talk, or do anything. He did it all. He monitored the baby’s feeding schedule, changed diapers, took care of me (took me to the bathroom, helped me shower, etc.)! He truly is super dad! Now, a week later, he still has changed more diapers than I have! It truly made me realize how much I love him as well as how good of a dad he will be. I am truly amazed with our little family.

Baby was having violent heart rate dips after water broke. (60’s) After positioning hr was not maintainable. Baby was high, ‘floating” and ctx to lower baby were causuing problems. Christi and Brian were given options, C was chosen and off they went. Mom had been SUCH a trooper and managibg labor so well. At 135 baby emmereged…Cord wrapped tightly around his neck twice and come to find out the effective (lowering ) CTX were causing Greyson to be choked. Dad did so well He was at Christi’s need the entire time. He was reassuring, supporting, and did what every good Dad does and put huis family needs first. I felt so blessed to see this family grow and see the family dynamics!!!
They will be in the hospital until Monday Recovery at home is 2-3 weeeks. Chrsiti is Breast feeding- and Brian is helping, Greyson was getting g it down, latching on still is difficult but improvement is evident! After mom feeds Brian has been the official burper-I will update on furter events, as for now they are working on getting Chnris mobile after section(doing well was up 2x yesterday by 3 when I lefy) Managing pain, and bonding. They appreciate all yopur thoughts but as of yesterday trying to keep # of visitors down and visits short. Before I left I let Brian take the reins and get Greyson dressed and changed. He did wonderful=- I told him he would be a pro soon!
They are doing womnderful and as I said I could see the family bonding and becoming more confident- THEY ARE DOING GREAT
For people who want to help, prepared meals would be good. Christi had about 6 meals made/frz but with C the recovery will be longer Brian is a good griller so they have some of theat ready too. Love you all
I’m sure Christi will be getting Pictures out as she gets with it (medications have made her not so with it) I made sure to get pictures through out Lbor/BABY ---tasteful ones--- So I’m sure she will have a plan for them

40 weeks--5 days left!Date: 06/12/2006
Well, I went for another biophysical/Ultrasound today to check on Peanut's weight. Again, the baby scored 8/8, the one dimension that I didn't remember last time was the rate of blood flow through the umbilical cord. All is well there.
The baby is measuring at 6 lbs 13 oz today, which should give us a 6-7 lb baby by Friday, which is D-DAY....That's right, if Peanut isn't here by Friday, I am being induced. The ultrasound tech looked at everything internally and once she conferred with the doctor, it appears that they are optimistic that Peanut will get here sometime this week before Friday.
I would love to go into labor on Friday because I have a 10:30 prenatal massage appointment in the morning and plus my doctor is on call that night.I have been walking and walking so, we'll see if that helps ease Peanut intot he world! We will update you all as soon as we know when it's time!

39 weeks and counting! Date: 06/08/2006
I just got back from the doctor and all looks well. She did tell me that I am starting to dialate, but didn't give me a number as to where I might be. She just said that the front of the cervix is dialating. Let the walking commence.
Everything looks great she said. The baby appears to be growing, I am now measuring at 36 weeks, so even if I am not gaining the baby is. My ribs could have told you that!! So that is good.
My weight as I said is not going up. In fact, I managed to loose 1/2 pound, despite eating pasta, ice cream, french fries and anything else Brian tried to feed me. I managed to do this even by leaving my shoes on during the weigh in. I routinely take them off because I don't want to be heavier than I am, but I left them on thinking that I might get yelled at if I didn't gain. I know, it makes me sick too. Loosing weight is not that easy--ever!!
I have an appointment for another biophysical exam next week, at which they will be able to reassess the baby's weight. And then, the freaky thing, I have an appointment for induction. Friday, if I am not in labor on my own, they are inducing me. So 8 days till I have a baby at the latest. Yikes!

Biophysical Appt today Date: 06/06/2006
Ok, so I have been going to the dr way too much for my taste, but I guess it is better to err on the side of caution then to just see what happens.
The Dr. ordered me to have a biophysical exam due to her concerns of the baby being small despite the gestational diabetes. But also said, that congenitally the baby is fine, and it just may not be possible for Brian and I to produce a "big" baby. We were both under 8 pounds, he was only 7 1/2 and I was under 7, so we weren't big babies ourselves.
What a biophysical is, is a 30 minute screen (ultrasound) where they look for 4 different factors, 3 of which I remember. 1) amount of amniotic fluid, 2) movement of baby, 3) breathing reflexes 4)movement. You can score 8 points total on this assessment. Any thing lower might signify a problem. Peanut got an 8 out of 8.
She said everything looks fine. So now I go back on Thursday for my regular appt and a non-stress test.

Oops, I think I cried wolf! Date: 06/03/2006
The contractions stopped shortly after I posted the journal entry online at 5 am. I slept between 5:30 and 7:30 and then went to the hospital for my non-stress test, which went off with flying colors.
Peanut was moving and shaking. I have had a few irregular contractions on and off today after having about an hour's worth this am, but nothing exciting to report yet. I feel like I cried wolf....:)Happy weekend!

Awake at 4:50 am Date: 06/02/2006
It is about 5am here and I have been having pretty regular contractions since 7 pm, as we were having dinner at Olive Garden, celebrating the end of the GD diet. Having contractions is not abnormal for me. I have had them between 7-10 all week, but they were not this intense and they went away.
Right now they are running about 5 minutes apart and are pretty strong. They feel much better when I have an empty bladder, so I keep going. I don't know if we will end up at the hospital tonight, but who knows.
I had an appointment with the massage therapist today and she worked on my back and legs mostly. Trying to stretch me out so that I can have a little more room to breathe. She also did some reflexology on my feet which I am now wondering if it has anything to do with the contractions that I am having.
I am feeling pretty good, if in labor, it's the very early stages that they say aren't that bad! So I am going to try to rest and see what happens.

37 week appointment Date: 05/26/2006
Went to the dr yesterday, everything is looking good. I started with the "non-stress test" which basically monitors the baby and my heart rates. I get a jeopardy like button to press each time I feel the baby move.
It's cool because not only do you hear the heart beat the whole time, you also can see the rate and also it monitors when I have a contraction. I have been having light ones for a while now, but they are starting to get stronger and lower.
I have pretty much constant pelvic pressure/pain, which I might think is a sign that it is getting close. I have been walking and keeping active so that I keep everything loose.
I met with one of the midwives yesterday, I really liked her, which is good, because I know that Dr. Johangten will only deliver the baby if she is on call. So hopefully, one of the wonderful midwives will be available if she is not.
All of my vitals are great: BP, weight, fetal heart rate.
She said that if I go into labor at this point, they won't do anything to try to stop it, instead, welcome Peanut. That was like whoa, this is coming soon. So car seat is in the car, the bags are packed and I am about as ready as I will ever be.
I go in next week to find out an estimate of the baby's weight, which will determine the course of action for the rest of the pregnancy....wish me luck!
Thanks for reading!

36 Week Dr ApptDate: 05/19/2006
Went to the dr yesterday for the weekly appointment, which turned out to be a long one! I had a surprise ultrasound just to make sure the baby wasn't breech, which (s)he is not. The head is down and the little sucker at that time was wrapped up and around the top of my belly. Unusual positioning she said, but I can often feel it back out, the right way for delivery, so I'm not worried.
I also had to do a non-stress test, which means that they put a fetal and maternal heart rate monitior on you and the display prints out on a piece of paper. That was kinda cool because I could tell when I tapped where the baby's feet are the heart rate would raise and then it would soothe down when I rubbed in that same area.
Everything looks good. I keep saying the baby feels like it is coming early, but she didn't give me any indication of this. So I will keep you posted!
